A new memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed by the White River National Forest, the Colorado Cave Survey, and The Access Fund (an organization representing rock climbers nationwide). This concerns actions for managing potential conflicts between climbers and cave resource protection in the Deep Creek Area.

Biologists doing an annual bat census study in May, 2022, at Azure Cave, Montana, found a 98% reduction in numbers of bats compared to previous years, caused by infection with White Nose Syndrome. The Colorado Cave Survey is developing a comprehensive set of recommendations for Cave and Karst Management. A draft of the document focused on lands managed by the White River National Forest is available for review.
