The White River National Forest (WRNF) has installed a gate on the Coffee Pot Road at the Forest Service boundary just below Willow Peak. The road, which is often used by cavers for access to many White River Plateau caves, will open on June 1 for travel as far as Crane Flats. Travel beyond Crane Flats will not open until June 21.
This closure is intended to prevent excessive erosion of the road until snow melt is complete and the road is dry. The closure has actually been a WRNF rule for years, but until the recent gate installation it was generally not enforced. The WRNF publishes a Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) showing current seasonal road closures and dates for the Coffee Pot Road area. Similar MVUMs for other areas of the WRNF can be found at their web site.
