White Nose Syndrome fungus detected in Idaho

Idaho Fish and Game biologists have announced that Pseudogymnoascus destructans, the fungus that causes the deadly White Nose Syndrome disease in many bats, has been detected for the first time now in Idaho. Test results from Minnetonka Cave on the Caribou–Targhee National Forest in Dear Lake County, Idaho, showed six of 33 bats swabbed in October 2021 tested positive for Pd. Minnetonka Cave serves as a winter roost for at least seven bat species. The six bats that tested positive for Pd included three species, Little Brown Myotis, Long-legged Myotis, and Yuma Myotis, all of which are known to be susceptible to white-nose syndrome.
